On Thursday, February 21, 2013, sixty-five college students from across the state of Florida will convene in Orlando for the Fifth Annual Florida Student Education Policy (FSEP) Conference to deliberate the state of policies and programs in Florida related to improving college and career readiness, access and completion.
These students, selected through a competitive application process, will have the opportunity to engage with student leaders from colleges and universities across the state about the challenges and opportunities for students accessing and succeeding in college. They will study and debate critically important policy issues related to higher education reform and more importantly, the students will draft and approve resolutions they believe can lead to systematic improvements related to student success in higher education.
Every student selected to participate in the FSEP Conference (February 21-24, 2013) and Florida CAN Advocacy Days (March/April) will have all of their travel expenses covered. Each participant will also be eligible for special awards and honors presented for distinguished and notable contributions to the student conference.
Students participating in the FSEP Conference will also benefit from:
- Debating with other college students on policy issues that impact them directly
- Developing a network of friends and associates around the state
- Gaining valuable experience as a student leader that will help in career preparation
- Engage in diplomatic and consensus building activities
- Presenting in a professional, but safe and collegial environment among peers
